Hello, fellow cake makers. My Seahouses Harbour cake is coming along - I knew I'd have a use for those leftover battenburg oblongs! My board is 91 by 83, cake about 80 x 80, and I'm curious as to where it will fit on the map, and what size and height the nearest cakes (presumably the Farne Islands and Bamburgh Castle) are going to be. The height of the Seahouses cake at its highest point - the watch tower at the end of the pier -  is about 30cm.

And what happens if it rains?

"Someone left the cake out in the rain, I don't think that I could take it, cos it took so long to bake it, and I'll never have that recipe again, oh nooooooooooo..." - Richard Harris, who must have done a cakemap himself.

I'm doing Bamburgh, about 85x50cm ish but the buildings are quite small, and my excuse is that it's on a high hill (so it looks small) :)

Good luck!

Erm, well our board is for all the islands together not just one island! But don't worry, at the moment we have model seals that are the size of boats so I don't think proportion was ever going to be our strong point! It'll be great to see them all next to each other

Hi Iona/ Eileen,

I'm doing Low Newton, so not far off from you two.  About 70 cm x 100cm, so that would be the size of an island, then!  All sounds perfectly proportioned to me, just so long as you bring a bottle to the picnic...

The weather report is looking better!! (not that I want to jinx it or anything). We're making the Farne Islands, the board is 110cm by 60cm so I think our islands may look a little small in comparison. But we can just say that they are far far away NOT smaller!
