For the benefit of everyone trying to build a cake next year, I'm doing this one last blog entry
Gibside was a smashing day Simon... I still have the sunburn to prove it!
So sorry we had to take the cake away... our team members didn't want all that hard work to be demolished so quickly and we were hoping to get it displayed in Durham Cathedral itself!
Thank you to everyone who came down to our Alington House making and local food event…

Here at St Oswald's has recruited fundraiser Zoe Mulvenna's dad to make our cake! This was a very different challenge for him as we usually ask him to make fancy dress outfits for us!
We by no means excpect to be 'competing' with any of the other cakes on Sunday but we're really looking forward to checking out everyone else's amazing efforts.
Zoe has turned into an expert engineer over the past few weeks, going as far as to borrow the bluerprints of the Hospice from our…

Hello, fellow cake makers. My Seahouses Harbour cake is coming along - I knew I'd have a use for those leftover battenburg oblongs! My board is 91 by 83, cake about 80 x 80, and I'm curious as to where it will fit on the map, and what size and height the nearest cakes (presumably the Farne Islands and Bamburgh Castle) are going to be. The height of the Seahouses cake at its highest point - the watch tower at the end of the pier - is about 30cm.
And what happens if it…

We now have sourced most of the ingredients for the inner cake through donations from businesses in the Local Food Network and beyond. Baking starts this weekend!
Kathleen has made the most awesome mock up template for our cathedral structure!
We also have booked out the café from 1pm-5pm at Alington House, in Durham City Centre for Saturday 25th June so people can come see us put it all together, get involved and find out more about what Transition Durham and…

I have begun an instructive (hopefully) and entertaining (possibly) blog documenting the creation of my landmark building.
But, at the moment I am talking to myself, as I have no followers yet...
