As you may guess from the photographs, we’re very excited to be baking Durham Cathedral although with a twist….
As Local food enthusiasts, were attempting to make the cake as much as possible from locally sourced ingredients to raise awareness of the abundance of local produce available.
Where this is not possible (e.g. sugar) we hope to use Fair Trade or British produce. This will highlight the importance of ethical food sourcing and show how easy it is to help the environment by decreasing the carbon footprint of the food we consume.

Gibside was a smashing day Simon... I still have the sunburn to prove it!
So sorry we had to take the cake away... our team members didn't want all that hard work to be demolished so quickly and we were hoping to get it displayed in Durham Cathedral itself!

We now have sourced most of the ingredients for the inner cake through donations from businesses in the Local Food Network and beyond. Baking starts this weekend!
Kathleen has made the most awesome mock up template for our cathedral structure!

We had our first meeting last Friday and have lots of great weird and wonderful ideas on how to get the cake standing upright although still deciding which is the more appropriate 'erhem'... Lego Amy?. I am also very happy to say that we already have local food businesses keen to donate some ingredients to the cake. At a later date I will let you know the exact details of where we sourced our produce from.
