Hi Heather,

I think you and Adam (the map builder) need to speak about this, I'll let him know to contact you here. You need to agree how much you'll do and how much he will, I think there'll need to be some stilting though...Simon
For everyone's benefit - this is the reply Claire sent to Heather on her profile.

Hi Heather
In regards to your question on how to construct the stilts for 55 degrees north the easiest way would be to cut a square of wood for the cake to sit on and use it as your base. To this blocks of wood cut to required height could then be nailed or screwed onto the corners for the legs.
this could then be painted
The wood would give a sturdy base to your cake
You can buy cheap off cuts of wood for pennies at any D.I.Y shop i.e BQ on scotswood road
Hope this helps you out!
any more questions please let me know
Clare
Hi Heather, I think you can build it on stilts if you are doing it to the correct scale. If not it will change how large i need to make the road. Also can you just confirm the width you have for the road (the width of your arch).
Sorry for the delayed response. . . I'll be on this full time now on!!!
hi Adam,
please could you advise me on the matter I raised below?
Thanks,
Kitty
Hi Kitty,
Adam is working on the Big EAT! Weekend but I will ask him to reply on Monday. Simon
Hi Kitty, sorry for the delay. . . mad weekend!. as the map is 100sq meters there are no hills built in so you can build into it what you like as long as it is presented on a flat board. I guess you may have to bring the hill back down at the other side or we may create the Ouseburn Cliff.

Let me know how it goes.
Thanks, Adam. Well today's the day for me for putting it all together... watch this space!
hello, I would really appreciate any advice on how to do the layout for my cake. I am working on Ouseburn Community Farm which is on a steep hill with the main building a lot higher than where the animals live. Will this hill be in the model that the cakes will be placed on or would it be best to build the hill into the cake. I would prefer the latter but understand if there's a plan to stick to. Also, do I need to include any of the Ouseburn river which is right next to the farm? and the hills just over the river where the sheep and goats graze (ie directly under Byker Bridge?).
Thanks, Kitty
Hi Kitty,

The map will be flat so you'll need to build the hill into your cake, but in terms of where you start and finish, I'll ask Adam, our map builder, to contact you here and you can discuss where his map finishes and your cake begins. Simon
i've been doing some investigation and it's not possible to bake our cake (dunston rocket) at the scale given in a conventional oven. i think we're going to shrink it by 50%. would this be ok? i don't what to spoil the overall look of things but i can't see anotherway to do it.
Hi Katy, Your cake is absolutely huge so if you want to reduce it that's fine, you won't spoil the look. But let me get Clare to contact you here, she may have some advice for you. Simon

Hi Katy
In regards to your question about your oven not being big enough!
I would suggest that you bake the cake in tins or trays and layer it using cake boards and dowling. you can buy the dowls from either a cake shop or a cheaper version from a D.I.Y shop that you can cut to the required size
By doing this you will ensure that your cake is quite sturdy
Hope this helps you out!
Any more questions drop me a line
Clare
