I thought this was the first question you would all want to ask....?!

I am officially asking this question!
Seth mentioned that dimensions for his swing bridge were in the ebay auction but having purchased my plot after the ebay auction, I don't have that info for my High Level Bridge, can you help?
Jay, I'll send it to you. Other people can cut the size of theirs down a bit if they want but not you bridge makers - or it won't reach across the Tyne.

My Saltwell Towers Cake is supposed to be 350Wx500Lx500H which I think will be fine for me - Clare (Armstrong, the Cakebook Pastry Chef) says it can be built on a plinth or around a box, she's going to show us how over the next few weeks. The height comes from a small turret which will sit on top.
simon could give us some information then about the quay (lenght, high, material, how the tyne will be done). we did plan to build a cake on each side of the millenium bridge to support the bridge. And we did scale it down a little bit.
Pierre, I'll ask Nicola at Xsite Architecture (here on Cakebook) to reply, she is designing the map and an artist called Adam Riley is making it, so it can probably be designed around you cake. Simon
Hi Pierre,

Can you send me the dimensions that you would like to work to and I will check to see if it fits or if we can reduce the size of the Tyne!

At the moment, materials are to be confirmed however presently the plan is allow people to walk over/along the Quayside so this will measure about 800mm, the Tyne ideally will be filled with food, cakes with blue icing or something similar.

Look forward to hearing from you!
the plan we had was for an 800 mm bridge. we can increase the size but we are a bit concerned that 1300 maybe to large for the piles to be able to support the cake. we need to know how high will be the quay so we can adjust the hight of the piles. we will bring our cake on a cake board so we were already planing to do some kind of river underneath the bridge to make it look more reallistic.
Oh, I'd also like to query the height of my bridge. The supplied measurements say 130mm which doesn't seem high enough given that the swing bridge is 200mm. Is 130mm just the height of the steel bridge sections rather than the height inclusive of the supports?
Cheers.
Every building/structure has been scaled up & down giving a very distorted/fun cake map.
We were very keen for each maker/artist to respond differently which is why the information is limited. The height is a guide only, you can make this whatever you like!

As your bridge is attached to the swing bridge it may be a good idea the speak with the makers and decied for the best way for the 2 to interlock.

As for the surroundings, I'm afraid that this is still in the design process. Possibly a question for Adam (the map maker)?
Simon, I'm wondering what the situation will be at the ends of my bridge. I can see where my dimensions start and finish (5 'supports'-worth) but the the bridge has another road/rail section at either end and then an arched section going up the bank on either side. How will my cake be integrated into it's surroudings (if at all), am I ok to stop at the point represented in the diagram or do the arched bits need to be included?

I am defnitely lacking some technical terms here!

Also, can I assume all my supports need to be the same height and that the patform shared with the swing bridge (as it looks onthis pic anyway) won't be included?

Hi. The bridge should stop at the final support and not continue to the arches. Adam (our map builder who isn't here yet but will be shortly) is creating a wide boardwalk along the Newcastle side so we can all walk through the centre of the map, so the cake needs to stop before this.

You need to discuss with Seth how you will link your cake to his, but the easiest way would be for him to cut his platform slightly short and then you can build 5 equal tower for yours.

Hope that helps. I very pleased with the amount of planning going on !
We're planning on building to the dimensions suggested for the Cumberland. We may yet plan to build around the box as has been suggested, we just need to see how that workd first.
hi,

I'm doing 55 degrees North...just wondering if I need to make part of it on 'stilts' so that the roundabout can go underneath it?
